Third Grade Art Lesson 6
Tissue Paper Collage, Part 2 Filling in Cool Colors in Our Fall Leaf Collage
Objective:
The students will continue working on the collage by using a variety of cool color tissue paper to fill in the background.
Materials:
Work from last lesson, a variety of cool color tissue paper (blues, greens, purples), liquid starch, paint brushes.
Procedure:
Begin by discussing what the cool colors are blues, greens, purples. Cool colors tend to recede into the background, whereas warm colors tend to jump forward. The students will continue the same process for their background that they used on each leaf, only using cool colors instead of warm. Remind the students as they tear their shapes to make them no bigger than a playing card and to be sure to overlap as much as possible. Again, this process is time consuming. Encourage the kids to work diligently, filling in all the white space. Store completed work in a safe place, and when dry stack the work under heavy weight to flatten out.
Conclusion:
Name basic primary and secondary colors and have the children tell you if they are warm or cool. Have the children view the almost-finished work and consider how much work was involved and the benefits of hard work.
