Each lesson builds on the previous one, so try to present each lesson in order to provide the student with the building blocks for a strong foundation to a comprehensive art education. There is a lesson per week for each grade level.

Giant Heart Drawing, Part 2 Completing Our Giant Heart Drawings


Objective:

The student will complete the giant heart drawings they began in the last lesson by filling in the background with more design and pattern.


Materials:

Drawings from last lesson, crayons


Procedure:

Today we will complete our heart drawings. Be sure you have filled in your heart completely before you begin working in the background. Spend some time just looking at your heart drawing. Let the patterns and designs you have already created inspire or give you ideas about how you can complete the background. You want to make designs that fit with the work you have already done on the inside of your heart. You might use the same type of designs and patterns and simply change the color. Or you may decide to do different designs that compliment the work you have already done. Plan your work carefully and control your coloring. Try not to get in a hurry and make your designs interesting to look at.


Conclusion:

Mount your drawings and hang them for everyone to enjoy. Have the entire class look at the display and point out the strengths of each work. Look for the designs that stand out the most and colors that work the best together.
