Fifth Grade Art Lesson 6
Color and Texture, Part 2 Completing Our Texture and Color Drawing
Objective:
The student will contrast the texture in their drawing with patterns in the background.
Materials:
Last lesson's work, markers
Procedure:
You may recall that texture is the quality of a surface. Sometimes making texture such as a brick wall also requires that we create a pattern. But all patterns are not textures. Today we will complete our work by filling in our background using colorful patterns. You may want to spend time on a scrap piece of paper making a plan of different patterns using your markers. When you have an idea that you are comfortable with, fill in behind your textured objects to show the contrast between texture and pattern.
Conclusion:
Examine carefully the different textures and patterns that each student has created. Encourage students to make positive comments about things they find in the work that are appealing. Mount the work and display for everyone to enjoy.
