Fifth Grade Art Lesson 25
Value Study, Part 2 Using Color in the Background
Objective:
The student will complete their hand drawing by designing a colorful background.
Materials:
Last lesson's work, markers or colored pencils
Procedure:
Examine your hand drawing and make sure it is the best work you can produce. Your next step is to plan out a background that will be rendered using a color medium. Look at the shape of your fingers and your hand and let that inspire or guide your thoughts as to an appropriate background to complement this difficult drawing you have completed. You would be wise to work out several designs on scrap paper before choosing one. Patterns of both shape and color will typically work well. Pursue your background with a playful mindset. Draw your idea off lightly to begin with. Begin coloring it in with great control. If you are using colored pencils, blending colors adds a wonderful dimension to the overall look.
Conclusion:
Drawing your hand is a difficult assignment. Isn't it exciting to see what you can do when you understand the basic concept of value revealing form? Mount your work and display it for everyone to enjoy.
