Art Education and History
• The Greeks – taught all subjects, reading, math, science - through the arts
• The Renaissance – taught art by modeling (watching the masters work) and through experimentation (perspective, modeling light and dark, expressions, etc.). Subject matter was largely of a religious or historical nature.
• It is worth noting that with the invention of the camera, the subject and even the purpose of art began to change dramatically.
• The Industrial Revolution – Form and function became the priority in art.
• Modern Art – Art for arts sake! Celebration of line, form, value, texture, color, shape and space.
